Beautiful Dragons Press started on the night of the supermoon in May 2012. Two poets, one in England, one in Germany, wrote a poem about the same old moon at the same old time, and swopped their work the next day. Working together, to a deadline proved to be exciting, exhilarating and chummy.
So they decided to extend the fun. The result was the first Beautiful Dragons Collaboration. Only then, it was just a collaboration, no dragons involved.
The dragons started to rear their fiery little heads when we realised the press needed a name. Break-even Press was one. But then the poets thought, steady on. Let's not overreach ourselves.
As they both liked maps, and needed a steer, they thought of ancient charts of the world. Where, in the remote regions, there be dragons. Great name.
But, oh no, someone else had started publishing in similar exciting waters before and nabbed it already.
Then one of the poets looked at the collection in front of her. The work was beautiful. The poets who did it of a similar ilke. Strong, occasionally fierce, very fine.
Right then,
Beautiful Dragons it was. And before you know it, there were four, five, six, nine
collaborations with ever so many bloody gorgeous dragons. 121 and counting.
